<p>The arrangement is intended for braking a motor vehicle provided with a power unit coupled to a transmission which consists of a torque converter and a gear change mechanism, wherein the torque converter contains a pump section a bladed diffuser section and a turbine section. The arrangement is such that, by selecting the appropriate gear of the gear change mechanism, the turbine is driven at a greater speed than the pump, which runs at the speed of the power unit, the brake force being controlled by controlling the speed of the power unit. In order to attain a higher braking moment, the converter diffuser is preferably held stationary, whilst for a lower braking moment the diffuser can freely rotate in any direction.</p> |
