<p>A new type of device is for measuring both actual gas flow rate and integral gas volume and has a short response time compared to conventional units. It is robust and yet gives high accuracy and repeatability. It is light and compact and does not require mains power. Hence it can be used in the laboratory and in the field. A metal plate mounted at one end in a rubber mounting in the gas flow is set in vibration by the flowing gas. The amplitude of the oscillations is exclusively a function of the gas flow rate. Mechanical or acoustic oscillations of the same frequency and varying amplitude corresp. to the measurement value. They are converted into an alternating voltage which is rectified and processed in electronic circuitry to derive the flow rate and integral flow volume.</p> |
