Particles of ash and unreacted coal are sepd. form hydrogen ted liq. prods. of coal liquefaction, by (a) addn. of a naphtha fraction with boiling range 150-290 degrees C. obtd. from the liquefied coal without further hydrogenation, (b) passing the mixt. upwards into a continuous settling stage, in which pptn. of solids and polymerisation of asphaltenes occurs, to produce a clarified prod. from the top, and a high-solids phase from the bottom, (ce passing the clarified product to a second solvent pptn. stage at temp. high enough to maintain the prod. in liq. state at atmos. pressure, and (d) drawing off the prod.contg. 0.1 wt.% ash from the top of the second stage. The prod. from (d) is suitable as gas turbine fuel, while the bottom prod. from the second settling stage can be used as boiler fuel. Ash content is reduced to an acceptable level, while sepn. of the pptd. asphaltenes also removes S and n. Use of atmos. pressure for settling allows use of larger and cheaper containers than in conventional settling under pressure.
|
