The chain hoist drive mechanism has a motor with reduction gear, on whose output shaft a pocketed sprocket is mounted, this being enclosed by a hoist chain guide. The output shaft (5) of the reduction gear (2) and the sprocket (6) together form a single casting of hardened fine-grain cast iron. The chain guide can consist of a ring round the top and sides of the sprocket, and to which guide sleeves with cruciform guide grooves for the chain are joined, together with deflector bosses for the chain into the sleeves. The sprocket has two or more radial recesses in the periphery, so situated that the boss on the sprocket between them can pass between the deflector bosses of the guide (8).
