The mechanism is intended for converting a reciprocating engine motion into rotation. It comprises a rotatable crank (7) and a coupling rod (5) connected to a reciprocating piston (4). The crank consists of a guide (10) which is symmetrically arranged relative to the axis of rotation, and on which a pin (6) can freely slide to and fro. The slide pin (6) is pivotably connected to a second coupling rod (12) whose other end is linked to a pin (13) freely slidable on a guide (14) rotating at twice the speed of the crankshaft about a parallel axis.
