A hybrid circuit breaker consisting of a vacuum interrupter connected in series with an SF6 interrupter has a zinc oxide varistor connected in parallel with the vacuum interrupter. The capacitance to ground of the SF6 interrupter is higher than the capacitance to ground of the vacuum interrupter.
