PURPOSE:To enhance the nonlinear optical effect of the title material by using a specific 8-quinolinol compd. CONSTITUTION:The 8-quinolinol compd. expressed by the formula is used for the title material. In the formula, X denotes an electron-attracting group; X is preferably acyl or 2-cyano-2-alkoxycarbovinyl. 5-formyl-8-quinolinol, etc., are usable as the compd. expressed by the formula. The title material is preferably constituted by the single component crystal of the compd. expressed by the formula and such material is preferably used for a light guide part. For example, an optical wavelength converting element is produced by providing the light guide part 21 consisting of the title material on a substrate 22 consisting of an isotropic medium such as glass.
