<p>These are used in the base of steel convertors and are made from two concentric tubes. An oxygen stream is blown through the central tube and a secondary gas, e.g. an endothermically dissociating hydrocarbon, is blown in an annular stream around the oxygen. The inner tube is made from a non-metallic refractory substance and this is preferably a refractory oxide or mixture of refractory oxides. Suitable oxides are those of zirconium, aluminium, magnesium, etc.</p> |
