Arrangement for controlling engine operating conditions by regulating mixture ratio/or recycled exhaust gas quantity comprises a pusle generator operatively connected to the crankshaft and connected to a first input of a phase comparator to the second input of which is connected a circuit arrangement which emits a signal characteristic of a uniform system rotating in synchronisation with the fundamental speed of the engine. The circuit arrangement pref. comprises a voltage-controlled generator of which the input is connected via two integrators to a first output of the phase comparator and of which the output is connected to a second input of the phase comparator.
