<p>The modified rear axle is used for a high performance car in which the wheel mountings are secured on the chassis by transverse pivot levers linked to a special head through which the drive shafts are located and to which a transverse beam axle is fitted. The beam axle provides some telescopic damping and support. The unsprung weight of the drive is considerably reduced, with the differential secured on the chassis. The separate, non drive axle serves as a simple support and provides improved stability.</p> |
