The beet harvesting machine which also includes a sieving system for cleaning the lifted beets, has a conveying arrangement behind the sieving system. The lifting mechanism drives two lifting wheels with their axes of rotation at an acute angle to the ground, covering six rows of beets. These discharge into an endless conveyor which conveys the beets upwards for discharge onto a transfer conveyor which discharges them onto a collector vehicle. The endless conveyor forms a rectangle in a vertical plane, the horizontal top strand discharging onto a grid which slopes downwards, acting as a sieve, to discharge onto the lower end of the transfer conveyor. This not only slopes upwards, but it can be swung sideways to a required angle about a vertical pivot axis.
