Recovery of straight-chained hydrocarbons by adduct - formation with urea

Straight-chain paraffins are recovered by fractionating a charge containing s-c. paraffins and other compds. into at least one fraction containing s-C paraffins of relatively low mol.wt. and at least one fraction containing s-c paraffins of relatively high mol.wt., wherein the high mol.wt. fraction contains a fraction overlapping the low mol.wt. fraction as regards mol. wt. and similarly with the low mol.wt. fraction. The low mol. wt. fraction is passed, together with urea, to a 1st adduct formation vessel and the high mol. wt. fraction is passed together into urea to a 2nd adduct formation vessel, the amt. of urea added to the two vessel, being such that there is insufficient for adduct formation with all the s-c paraffins passed to the vessels. The adducts formed from the paraffins and urea are extracted from the two vessels, and the low mol. wt. and high mol. wt. paraffins are set free from the respective adducts.
