PURPOSE:To enable polarization in a direction perpendicular to that of thickness, by applying a DC voltage to two points separated at a prescribed distnce from each other in the direction of the polarization and sequentially displacing the points to perform the polarization. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 2, 3 separated at a prescribed distance from each other in a desired direction of polarization, an anode 4 and a cathode 5 are provided so that the electrodes 4, 5 face the others 2, 3 across a piezoelectric substance 1. A polarizing voltage E is applied to the electrodes 2, 3 so that the electrode 2 serves as an anode and the other 3 serves as a cathode. A line of electric force is thus produced. The polarizing voltage E is then applied to the anode and cathode 4, 5 so that another line A' of electric force is prodiced. The lines A, A' electric forces are thus synthesized to cancel the components in the direction of thickness of the piezoelectric substance 1 by each other. The electrodes are thereafter sequentially displaced in the desired direction of polarization to repeat such steps to perform the polarization in the direction perpendicular to the thickness of the piezoelectric substance 1. |
