Coke oven gas dedusting - by tangential jets in ascension pipe causing swirling flow to deposit solid particles

Hot coke oven gas is dedusted as it passes through the ascension pipe by introducing at the base of the ascension pipe a gaseous medium in jets which are directed slightly upward and at an angle to the radius. The centrifugal force causes dust and ash to be thrown against the walls and to be trapped in the tar lining the upper part of the ascension pipe. This removes dust before the coke oven gas reaches the collecting main. The gaseous medium can be branched off the purified coke oven gas system.
