Catalyst components and catalysts for the polymerization of olefins; the use thereof.

Components of catalysts for the polymerization of olefins, consisting of the product obtained by reacting:
a) the product of the reaction between:
a1.) a compound of trivalent Ti or V, such as TiCl3;
a2.) an organic compound containing at least one OH group, such as an aliphatic alcohol with 2 to 8 C atoms or phenol; and
a3.) a Mg compound, such as MgCl2;
with
b) a compound selected from SiCl4, Cl3SiCH3, ClSi(CH3)3, Cl3SiH, TiCl4, AlCl3, Al(C2H5)2Cl, Al(C2H5)Cl2, Al(C2H5)3, SnCl4, BCl3 and hydrogen halides. Catalysts consisting of the above components and Al-trialkyls or Al-alkyl halides allow the production, with high yields, of polyethylene and poly-alpha-olefins having a narrow distribution of molecular weights.
