The solid-to-gas heat exchanger has gas inlet and outlet at bottom and top respectively, together with a top feed for the solids and guides for it inside supported in a vibration generator. Below a top solids distributor head (4) and arranged vertically in series one below the other are alternate inwards and outwards sloping frusto-conical guide surfaces (6, 8, 6, 10) on a central column (28) supported at the bottom on the vibration generator. These are mounted inside a double-walled casing with cold gas inlet at the top and hot gas outlet at the bottom. The heat exchanger is preferably for use with a fluidised bed furnace, serving for preheating the combustion air.
