A process wherein plants are grown with their roots wholly or partially immersed in a flowing aqueous solution of plant nutrients characterised in that at least part of the nitrogen fed to the flowing solution is in the form of a source of ammoniacal nitrogen and at least part of the acid required to maintain the pH of the aqueous solution below a desired level is replaced by that source of ammoniacal nitrogen, and in that the total overall K:N weight ratio of the nutrients fed to the flowing nutrient solution in a 48 hour period (excluding any free acid and calcium nitrate) is more than 1.5:1. |
