Mast uprights 24 are secured to the truck frame 12 so that they are inclined rearwardly from positions over the front wheel axis and guide a lifting carriage which comprises side plates 28 and a transverse plate 30, guide rollers 32, 34 and fork arms 60, the arrangement being such that in the lowered position, the fork tines 64 are adjacent the ground. The carriage is raised by hydraulic rams 36 pivotally connected between the truck frame and carriage and situated directly in front of the mast uprights. The fork arms 60 comprise upwardly and outwardly-inclined portions mounted on pivots 84 on the lifting carriage. Arms extending laterally outwardly from the pivots 84 are connected to the transverse plate 30 by hydraulic rams 74 whereby, on operation of the rams, the fork tines 64 may be spaced apart or brought into mutual contact, Fig. 2 (not shown). |
