The assembly is fitted to a column of the machine tool by a vertically slidable bracket. The bracket contains the main driving motor, main spindle, feed drive and a tool changing mechanism. The main drive motor is a servo-direct current motor driving via a belt and wheel seated in an axially slidable manner in the bracket. In the hub part of the wheel, an axially slidable shaft is seated to penetrate the housing block and a non-slidable coupling wheel. The spindle carries on its end pinion driving the magazine. The splined shaft has a section without splines, so that the shaft operates together with the coupling wheel as a switch over clutch.
