The engine or motor driven heating system comprises an engine or motor (1) of any suitable type, coupled to a hydrokinetic torque converter (3) whose secondary member can be held stationary by a brake. To yield the friction heat the convertor is connected to heat exchangers in the heating system. Alternatively, its working liq. is arranged to flow through radiators (5) of any desired shape. A power generator or transporting machine, such as an electric generator and/or a heat pump, can be coupled to the torque converter.
