PURPOSE:To prepare a water-dispersible acrylic resin capable of forming films having improved water and alkali resistance, by using methyl methacrylate, an unsaturated carboxylic acid or its salt, and an aliphatic alcohol (including a specific alcohol) ester of (meth)acrylic acid. CONSTITUTION:(A) Methyl methacrylate, (B) an unsaturated carboxylic acid or salt, and (C) a methacrylate or acrylate or both made from a >=9C alcohol consisting of a synthetic aliphatic alcohol having a side chain in at least part of the aliphatic alcohol, or therir mixture are copolymerized, and, if necessary, neutralized, with a basic substance to give a water-dispersible acrylic resin or its salt. The addition of an emulsifier is unnecessary due to the self-emulsifying ability of the resin. |
