In a lighter comprising a case of a fuel reservoir having an outlet adjacent to a spark producing means, the improvement includes a shaft for rotation and axial movement within the case, a spark producing rasp wheel coupled to the shaft but axially movable with respect thereto, and means for rotating the shaft and rasp wheel when the shaft is moved in one axial direction and for preventing rotation as the shaft is moved in the other axial direction.
