PURPOSE:To remove the strain of a steel pipe at a high speed and at a high efficiency so as to straighten the pipe at a high preciseness, by passing the steel pipe plated with molten metal through two groups of straightening machines which have upper rollers and under rollers and are capable of conducting straightening in vertical and lateral directions. CONSTITUTION:At least three upper rollers 7a, 7b... and under rollers 11a, 11b... for straightening are arranged so that a steel pipe 5 to be straightened travels horizontally through between the upper and the under rollers. The upper and the under rollers are arranged in zigzag configuration at large intervals and freely rotatably to form the first straightening machine 1. The second straightening machine 3 of structure similar to that of the first one is installed by arranging rollers on a plane which cross the steel pipe 5 to be straightened suitably, e.g., at angles 30 deg., 45 deg., 60 deg., 90 deg. successively one by one so that the corresponding rollers cross the pipe at an equal angle with each other. One or both of the corresponding rollers are made slidable, and are fixed freely against the steel pipe 5 to be straightened. The rollers give straightening effect to the steel pipe without causing rolling effect because they are arranged in zigzag configuration at large intervals. |
