<p>A sludge raking mechanism for rectangular sewage settling basins has the raking blade suspended by a linkage on a tube with rollers, guided in parallel rails along the basin sides. An endless rope drive reciprocates the linkage and urges the tube rollers against the top rail. Curved guide rails ensure that the blade rollers are raised to the bottom guide rail for the return journey of the blade and that the blade is lowered to the basin bottom for the start of the next working stroke. Such a raking mechanism is suitable even for a completely covered settling basin. It has a simple design and can be made at low cost so that crucial parts can be made of high-grade materials to resist corrosive vapours.</p> |
