New 2-amino-3-benzoyl-1,4-dihydropyridine derivs. are of formula (I): In (I), R1 is H, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, CF3, CN or pyridyl; R2 is pyridyl, thienyl, furyl, aryl, or aryl carrying 1 or 2 substits selected from NO2, CN, N3, halo, CF3, OCF3, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio or alkylsulphonyl; R3 is an alkoxy residue in which the alkyl part is opt. cyclic and opt. substd by halogen, CN, alkoxy or dialkylamino, or R3 is alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy or -C6H4-R1; and R4 is H or alkyl. (I) are pharmaceuticals with effects on the circulation. In particular, (I) have a coronanyvasodilating action accompanied by a nitrite-like action and an energy-sparing effect on condiac metabolism. (I) also lower blood pressure in normotensive and hypsitensive animals and can be used as antihypsitensive agents. The additives of (I) include antifibrillatory activity, vascular and muscular spasmolytic effects, effects on blood cholesterol and lysid levels, and antiinflammatory activity.
