Self-regulating exchanger element for exchanger column - has vapour inlet opened proportionately to fluid height on bottom

A sleeve projects downwards from a bottom partition in a column for the exchange of matter between fluid and gaseous media which are directly contacted with each other. In its upper zone the sleeve has a number of slots which are pref. parallel to the axis of the sleeve and form passages. Inside the sleeve which is movable up and down, is pressed upwards by a spring. The hood has side cheeks reaching downwards which close the section of the sleeve, and is restricted in its up and down motion by stops. In the top position the side cheeks close the slots whilst in the bottom position of the hood the slots are fully open. Used to remedy the failings of conventional exchanger elements esp. in rectifying columns which act differently according to the level of the fluid on the bottom, so that the operation is inefficient. The control of the exchanger is not now effected by interplay between vapour flow and fluid height, but by their spen. The column of fluid represents one quantity whilst the vapour flow represents a variable quantity.
