THIOPHENE OR FURAN DERIVATIVES AND PROCESS FOR PREPARATION THEREOF

Commercially advantageous processes for preparing thienylacetic acid, furylacetic acid or alkyl esters of these. Novel thiophene or furan derivatives that can be used as starting materials for preparing the above compounds. Processes for preparing these starting materials are also provided. Such compounds are useful in preparing pharmaceutical derivatives of penicillins and cephalosporins.
