The copying machine has an infinite tape driven around two parallel rollers. One of the rollers can be adjusted from the paralle position in order that the tape may track sideways. The tape (50) is photo-sensitive and is given a uniform charge at the loading station. The tape will be selectively discharged by the exposure of the image on the original. The light source (58) is placed along one edge of the tape. A photo-sensitive element (59) is placed on the other side, to detect part or all of the light beam. The detector will transmit a signal to a logic circuit (62) which will produce a control signal to vary the position of the roller. The signal from the detector will be fed through an analog-digital converter.
