PURPOSE:To reduce the area on a workpiece ground as little as a value of the finish fails by setting a reference line closely to the side edge of the workpiece. CONSTITUTION:A reference line A-A is established on a workpiece 1 as an original line. A combined motion of a grinding head 7, going from one side line point 20 to another 30 extending in the transverse direction of a workpiece 1 and back to the point 20 through the reference line as origin, is formed repeatedly. For each motion before next travel, the grinding head 7 is coasted to stop at the far point from the side line point 20 or 30 of the workpiece 1 and shifted little in the longitudinal direction of the workpiece 1. When the grinding head 7 comes into contact with a side point 20 or 30 of the workpiece 1, the longitudinal motion of the grinding head 7 is restricted during a forward motion and in reverse released from either points during back motion. |
