NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic substance SF-1999, white powder. Melting point: Slowly turns brown from 149-158 deg.C, and foams at 178 deg.C. Specific rotatory power: [alpha]D<24>=-65 deg. (C=1, water). Elementary analysis: C, 43.80%; H, 6.57%; N, 13.09%. Solubility: Readily soluble in water; slightly soluble in methanol; insoluble in organic solvents, e.g. acetone benzene, or chloroform. Color reaction: Positive to Sakaguchi's, Elson- Morgan's reactions, etc.; negative to the Tollens and silver nitrate reactions. USE:Antibacterials effective against Gram-negative bacteria and bacteria which belong to the genus Mycobacterium. PROCESS:Strains of Streptomyces platensis SF-1999 (FERM-P NO.4659) or Streptomyces platensis SF-1999-U-71 (FERM-P No.4660) are aerobically cultured in a liquid medium, and the objective substance in the filtrate is adsorbed by an ion exchange resin, washed with water, eluted by a dil. aqueous ammonia, and purified. |
