PURPOSE:To increase the corrosion resistance of both electrodes, when electrolyzing an aqueous solution of halogenated alkali, by using an anode containing PbO and a cathode fabricated from an alloy of Ni, Cr base or further, of Fe. CONSTITUTION:When electrolyzing an aqueous solution of halogenated alkali, represented by NaCl, the anode is made by covering a conductive substrate of Ti, Ta, Zr, Nb, or the like with Pt-Pd alloy and oxidizing the alloy by anodic oxidation. Or, a conductive substrate of Ti or the like being covered with PdCl and heated to be oxidized to PdO is used as the anode. As the cathode, on the other hand, a simple substance of Ni or Cr, or Ni-Cr alloy, or Fe-Ni or Fe-Cr alloy may be used. In this method, consumption of both electrodes, in particular, the anode, during electrolytic operation is extremely small, and even if the both electrodes are short- circuited, the onsumption of the both electrodes may be greatly reduced as compared with the conventional method. |
