[Also in Division C4] An adhesive primer for bonding silicone rubbers to metal comprises an alkenyl triorganoxy-silane of the general formula RSi(OR<SP>1</SP>) 3 , where R is an alkenyl radical and R<SP>1</SP> is a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon radical, and phosphorous acid. The compositions may also contain an alkyl or hydroxy-alkyl orthosilicate or a partial hydrolysate thereof, and a solvent. The composition may be applied to iron, iron alloys, cobalt, nickel, aluminium, glass, ceramics or masonry by brushing, spraying or dipping and may be cured by air-drying or heating. In one example a composition comprising vinyl tris (2-methoxyethoxy)-silane (100 parts), phosphorous acid (1.5 parts) and isopropanol (700 parts) is sprayed on to a glass surface and air dried; a room-temperature-vulcanising silicone rubber is then applied and left 24 hours to cure. |
