Locking system for pressure cookers - automatically operates when temp. and pressure rises

The lid is locked on the edge of the cooker pan by a mechanism(105) which can be operated by an actuating element(109) which becomes distorted in dependence on the temperature. The actuating element is preferably made of a temperature responsive material which is mounted in a chamber(108) having at least one opening. Thus it expands as the temperature increases, thereby filling the opening to cause the lid to lock automatically when the temperature rises. The pressure cooker cannot be opened whilst there is still too much pressure. No special safety features are required.
