The mixer trough has a length several times its width, and without intermediate bearings for the mixer shaft. Troughs of 30 to 40 metres length are possible with this construction. The shaft carrying the mixer elements must have high bending and fatigue strength and this is achieved by providing stiffening cages over the mixer elements, or by tensioning the shaft axially using wire or cable tensioners anchored near the ends of the shaft and passing over centrally located streets. The mixtures are suitable for continuous operation, having no transport characteristics. |
