When the turbine is in operation, a thin film of fluid forms on the inner and outer faces of the blades. Due to centrifugal force, the fluid flows along the blade face, and forms globules at the root, and tip ends of the blade. A fluid relief hole is drilled at the tip of the blade (4), running horizontally from the leading to the trailing edge of the outlet (3). A second hole is drilled near the root of the blade, and also runs horizontally, but from the inlet to the outlet.
|
