An X-ray tube immersed in an oil-filled container with an anode tube extending out of the neck of the container to support a target adjacent a beryllium window, is provided with a thermoplastic foam collar between the anode tube and the neck of the container to prevent heat transfer from the anode tube to the tube envelope through convection currents in the oil. Preferably there is a space between the collar and the anode tube, and the collar may be provided with a channel connecting the interior of the container with a filling opening through which oil can be introduced.
