PURPOSE:To prepare styrene or its derivative, in high yield, with suppressed side reactions, by the oxidative dehydrogenation of a specific alicyclic hydrocarbon in gaseous phase in the presence of a catalytic system containing Sn, Sb, Cu, an alkali metal, and O as essential components. CONSTITUTION:A six-membered alicyclic hydrocarbon having a alk-1-enyl substitution group, of formula (A is six-membered alicyclic hydrocarbon which may be substituted by 1-4C alkyl; R<1-3> are H or 1-4C alkyl), e.g. vinyl cyclohexane, is subjected to the oxidative dehydrogenation in gaseous phase to afford styrene or its derivative. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst containing Sn, Sb, Cu, an alkali metal and O and at least one component selected from Fe, Te, W and Mg, as essential components. The by-production of alkylbenzenes and the generation of CO and CO2 by combustion, are suppressed by the use of the catalyst, and the yield is improved. The second components, i.e. Fe, Te, etc. improves the effect and makes the process economical. |
