As described, a motor vehicle windscreen 1 supports two aerial elements 2 which are connected to an active capsule 4 having connection members 3. The active capsule is preferably located on the vertical centre line of the windscreen either in a circular recess or hole, or in a marginal part-circular recess (Fig. 8, not shown). With a mono-lithic windscreen the capsule is contained in a recess facing the interior of the vehicle, and is sealed in place by putty or the like. The aerial elements and the connection members are disposed on the inside of the windscreen, as shown in Fig. 3. With a laminated windscreen, a similar method may be used, as shown in Fig. 4, or a recess for the capsule may be formed inside the windscreen, with the aerial elements and the connection members disposed in the interlayer, as shown in Fig. 7. The aerial members 2 in Fig. 5 are L-shaped, but they may instead be straight lengths of conductor, extending in opposite directions from the centre of the windscreen, near its upper edge (Fig. 1, not shown). |
