1284152 Dimerization process SOLVAY & CIE 5 June 1970 [16 June 1969] 27243/70 Heading C2C Adiponitrile is produced in a process for the dimerization of a #-halopropionitrile and/or acrylonitrile with an alkali-metal or alkalineearth-metal amalgam, the process comprising (a) continuously sampling a fraction of the reaction mixture (after neutralization of the reaction mixture, in the case of acrylonitrile dimerization) and separating the sample into a liquid organic phase and a solid salt phase, (b) washing the salt with propionitrile formed as a by-product of the reaction, (c) adding the washing liquid to the organic phase and distilling the mixture to recover each component thereof, the propionitrile so obtained being recycled to the salt-washing stage. |
