The card index filing system holds the cards in boxes (12) which are suspended at each end by pivots (11) fixed to parallel belts (8). The belts pass around pulleys (4) running on shafts (3) mounted on uprights (2) fixed to a base (1). One of the shafts is driven by a belt (6) from an electric motor (5). The device is enclosed by a cover with a small window so that the required box of cards is visible when brought into position by the motor. The method of suspending the boxes ensures that they always remain upright and eliminates the risk of losing the contents.
