Joint for high pressure hydraulic pipes - has sleeve of ductile material and nylon sealing ring

A joint for high pressure hydraulic pipes consists of a fitting (1) with a tapered bore and an external thread. This fitting (1) is joined to the pipe (5) with a nut (2) with an internal shoulder and tapered bore. The shoulder of the nut (2) abuts against the flange (41) of a sleeve (4) of ductile metal such as a steel with high tensile strength. The sleeve (4) has an external taper to match the bore of the nut (2) and internal circumferential ridges (4g) which match grooves on the pipe (5). A ring (3) of a material such as nylon is compressed by the tapered bore of the fitting (1) as it abuts against the end face (4e) of the ductile sleeve (4) and thus forms a leak tight joint.
