Physical and/or chemical exchanges are carried out between a liquid and a gas by suspending a horizontal film of liquid by means of a homogenous and vertical gas stream, such that the liq. is dispersed in the gas for a predetermined time depending on the density and the viscosity of the liq., the nature of the gas and the required exchange and/or mixing. The method is useful for carrying out heat exchange, for evaporating and concentrating liquids, and for oxygenating water or waste water. The method is efficient and requires no excessive energy input.
