The sliding door brake allows the doors to be firmly braked in a partial open position and quickly released. The brake has a box (3) which slides freely along a braking rail (1) while a roller (18) is above a notched part (32) of a cam (25). When the roller falls into the notch shaft (14) rotates. Slight rotation of this causes larger rotation of an inside double threaded shaft operating half cylindrical shell brakes. Lifting a lever (29) reverses the shaft rotation and releases the brakes.
