An appts. for recovery of volatile org. compds. was used to impregnate lots of tobacco to increase its filling capacity. Methylene, Et, ethylidine chlorides, trichlorofluoromethane, and trichlorotrifluoromethane are used for impregnation, which are introduced under pressure into tobacco layers in a hermetic chamber. The volatiles are removed by passing water vapor through tobacco at temp. above their b. p, transferred into a purifn. reservoir, in which solid tobacco particles and water vapor are sepd.
