A piece of sports equipment which can be used for goal posts or for supporting a tennis net consists of two uprights (1) supporting a horizontal cord (4). The uprights (1) have an upper rod (1a) fixed in an elastic base (3). The base (3a) is fixed to a shaft (2) which can be driven into the ground. The cord (4) is fitted in slots in the ends (5) of the rods (1) and retained by blocks (7). The tension in the cord can be adjusted by altering the elastic elements (3) of the base (3a). The elastic support of the uprights (1) reduces the risk of injury in the event of a player colliding with them.
