A selection device for a circular or flat machine comprises selectors which pass down a channel 19 which converges to a throat where electromagnetic selection occurs and into a diverging portion whose walls 20, 21 comprise opposing poles of a single permanent magnet. At the throat the selectors are attracted by pole pieces 29, 29' of selectively energised electromagnets 25, 26. The magnetic walls 20, 21 ensure the selected positions of the selectors. In the embodiment shown the selector 12 can be moved to the left so that one arm 9b of a lever 9 controlling the jack position impinges on its step 12a when the spring 11 exerts its influence. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown) that part (12'b) of the selector moving between the poles is pivoted to the lower part. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) a tilting jack is pivotally connected to a selector moving between the poles.</p> |
