A central station (1) communicates with substations connected to a communication channel in parallel for monitoring and in series for control. A calling telegram for spontaneous signals sent from the central station is addressed to a certain substation or in common to all substations. When a substation has no spontaneous signals, it retransmits the signals so that the call from the central station reaches a substation with spontaneous signals. This station receives the call and sends its spontaneous signals to the central station. Only after this has been carried out, the substation (US1) retransmits the call to the next substation (US2).
