The rod-shaped discharge tube emits ultra-violet rays in the A-region and if necessary in the adjacent section of the B-region. The dimensions of the tube and the capacity have been reduced. The ends of the tube are made with a round fitting with projecting pins to fit into a socket of a radiation instrument. The distance between the fittings on the instrument is approx. equal to the length of the tube. The overall length of the tube is 440-450 mm and a diameter of approx. 25 mm. The base and the dia. complies with the existing universal standard but the length is greater. Hence the lamp will only fit radiation equipment where the sockets are equivalent distance apart. The inner surface of the glass tube of the discharge lamp has a fluorescent coating. The space inside is filled with a mercury vapour.
