<p>As in the parent patent, corrugated sheets are welded together in pairs to form tube panels. These are assembled side-by-side, with their running horizontally, the tubes of adjacent panels being staggered. Coolant flows through a jacket or cylindrical sheel surrounding the tube assembly while gas to be cooled is passed through the tubes. Tube plates at opposite ends of the assembly are formed by outwardly bending the ends of the sheets of each panel and welding them to those of adjacent panels. For improved stress resistance, panels at the sides of the assembly are reinforced by longitudinal ribs welded to their tubes, and the edges of the composite tube plates are given a somewhat zig-zag shape where they are welded to internal flanges of the shell.</p> |
