<p>Purification partic. the purification of domestic and industrial effluent is by flocculation of impurities by electrolytic solution of an iron anode in the form of ferric hydroxide flows, whereby the ferrous (II) ions formed from the iron anode are oxidised at a carbon anode and the oxygen necessary to aerate the water is produced, the suspension being then settled and the clarified oxygen enriched water thereafter chlorinated by means of a second carbon anode supplied with the necessary current to produce a corresponding excess of free chlorine, the resultant clarified, aerated and chlorinated water being finally treated using a metal anode which supplies the required level of silver ions.
